Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official stated the attack made him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
